Sunil Edirisingha

Sunil Edirisingha is a Sri Lankan famous classical musician. His full name is Patikirige Sunil Jayapreti Edirisingha. Sunil Edirisingha was born 19 December 1949 and currently 70 years old. He entered in to Sri Lankan music industry in 1969 and his first song was ‘Sadakada Pahanata Katayam Opala Pawena Deddunnak Lagum Gani’.

Sunil Edirisingha completed his primary education at Sri Dharmaloka Vidyalaya in Kelaniya in 1955 and moved on to Kelaniya Sapugaskanda Maha Vidyalaya in 1968 for his secondary education. However, he did not complete secondary education at Sapugaskanda Maha Vidyalaya and moved to Delgoda Kalyana Pradeepa Pirivena to gain his advanced level qualifications.

After completeing his secondary education in 1969, Sunil Edirisingha joined with the Sri Lankan Government Printing Corporation. Sunil Edirisingha started his career with ‘Sadakada Pahanata’ song for his brother Sathischardra Edirisingha’s film ‘Matara Aachchi’. This song was composed by Vistor Rathnayaka and written by Wally Nanayakkara in 1965.

During this time Sunil Edirisingha joined with P.zV. Nandasiri’s Academy of Music and thereafter moved to India to study further at the University of Laknaw in 1970. He was then graduated with first class honors from the prestigious Bathkande Academy of Music at the University of Laknowin India.

After returning to Sri Lanka, Sunil Edirisingha joined with Sri Lank Broadcasting Corporation in 1980 and released his first cassette – ‘Chandra Mandala’.
