Ranjan Ramanayaka was born in 1963 on March 11th in Negambo. His real name is a bit longer than the most known name of Ranjan Ramanayaka, Saddha Widdha Rajapaksha Pallange Pathirana Ambakumarage Ranjan Lio Silvester Alponsu is the real name of Ranjan Ramanayake. He is a popular Sinhala film star, singer and a politician. Ranjan Ramanakaya's father was a District Inspector at CGR (Ceylon Government Railway).

 

Ranjan's first appearance in Sinhala Cinema was in the 1990s and he played the main role in ''Jaya Kothanada'' short movie, then he appeared with Vijaya Kumarathunga's most famous Sinhala movie '' Christhu Charithaya''. ''Christhu Charithaya'' movie was directed by Dr. Sunil Ariyarathna and it was Ranjan Ramanayaka's first Sinhala Movie.

Starting with ''Christhu Charithaya'' Ranjan Ramanayaka started to appear in several movies in the 1990s however, Ranjan was able to achieve the 'Best Up Comming Actor'' award by Sarasaviya for the movie of ''Awaragiriya. From 2002 to 2016 Ranjan Ramanayaka was able to achieve the ''Most Popular Actor'' award of Sarasavisa continuously 14 years. Ranjan Ramanayaka directed few Sinhala comedy movies such as ''Parliament Jokes'', ''One Shot'', ''Leader'' and ''Hath Riyan''. Apart from the Sinhala film industry Ranjan also participated in several Sri Lankan teledramas such as ''Charulatha'', Nil Mahanel'', Wishwa Gamana'', Sudu mal Kanda'', ''Sagaraya Parada'', ''Bagya'' and ''Guru Geethaya''.

Ranjan entered politics in 2004 and became the organizer of the Katana seat for the Gampaha District. He then contested for the Sabaragamu Provincial Council in 2008. However, he was able to become an opposition leader in Sabaragamu Provincial Council. After a few years, in 2010 Ranjan was able to win the contest from Rathnapura District and elected to the Sri Lankan parliament from UNP ( United National Party).
